The Halo has also become a symbol of purity and virtue, and since it’s just a ring, it’s safe to assume that learning to draw a halo would be easy.
However, it can be more complicated than expected, but this guide will make sure you can master it anyway!
This step-by-step guide to drawing a halo in just 6 easy steps will walk you through drawing this angelic symbol.
How to Draw A Halo
Step 1
When you decided to learn how to draw a halo, you might have thought it would be as easy as drawing a skinny donut.
Although technically, the Halo has a fairly simple structure, which might be more complex than you think! While it may be harder than expected, the steps in this guide will ensure it’s easy for you.
To that end, let’s start slowly with the first step of this guide. We’ll start with the outline of the Halo, and all you have to do now is draw a sharply curved line, almost as if you were drawing half of a flat oval. That’s all for now, and you can move on to step 2!
Step 2
We mentioned that the first step was to draw half of a flat oval, and in this Halo drawing step, we will complete the analogy by drawing a flat oval.
To do this, draw another line that is a mirror image of the first one you drew. With this outline complete, we can begin the inner curves of the Halo.
Things can start to get messy here, but don’t worry! We’ll take it in stride as we ensure you end up with an incredible halo.
Step 3
It would be easier to draw another oval inside the first one, but even if it works, we’ll go further in this how-to-draw halo guide.
The way we draw the lines represents the curves of the halo structure much better.
To do this, we start with a line inside the outline of the Halo. This line is quite curved, going around the inner perimeter of the halo outline.
The reference image also shows how we should curve this line to complete this in the next few steps.
Step 4
In this fourth part of the halo design, we’ll finish the inner outline of the Halo.
We will also curve this line we will draw like the previous one you created, but it will not connect seamlessly to the other.
On the right, they connect perfectly, but on the left, the line you drew in step 3 will extend slightly past the start of the line in this step.
It may sound not easy here, but it becomes very clear once you see the reference image! So we have to add a few final details, so let’s get on with it!
Step 5
Your drawing is almost complete now, but we’ll add a few more lines before completing this step of our how-to-draw a halo guide.
First, extend the inner curve line of the Halo to the right. Then you can add more line detail along the inside edge of the Halo on either side.
Once you’ve seen that it looks like our reference image, you’re technically done with the drawing!
You don’t have to stop there, though; there are plenty of other great touches to add. You could draw lines around the Halo to make it look bright or even draw an angel’s head underneath!

Step 6
Now that you’re done creating the halo design, relax with some coloring fun to finish!
We used a few shades of yellow to give this Halo a golden look, but feel free to use any other color you love!
You can make the colors lighter near the Halo and farther away using mediums such as paint or watercolor. This would help create a radiant look radiating from the Halo.
